Tekgen midi sequence generator

TekGen: A Tek / EDM biased midi sequence generator.

I usually enter sequences into my hardware sequencers in a sort of freestyle mode and keep going until I get something I like. But recently, I wanted to try to create an automatic bass line generator that could export the bass line as a MIDI file. Then the idea was to transfer the files to various sequencers / DAW's for further modification.

I ended up with TekGen.

It automatically and sort of randomly generates a 14 part and up to 64 step output sequence, that can then be exported to a type 1 MIDI file. Most DAW's allow you to drag or import this MIDI file in and then expand it to 14 separate MIDI tracks. I've then been transferring them to hardware sequencers, but you could use them in your DAW with virtual instruments.

The main focus was the generation of an output midi file. But a simple 14 part synth is included to allow the sequence to be auditioned before export. It's important to bear in mind that the onboard synth is pretty basic. As soon as you get the MIDI files driving virtual instruments or hardware, it will sound a lot better (hopefully).

The full version of the VST tries to create patterns in the styles of up to 20 different EDM genres. Some times patterns can sound similar, but if you press INTELLI-RANDOM a few times, or alter the variation settings and press GENERATE the patterns will alter.

There are free versions and full versions available on the products pages. The versions are identical apart from the number of genres. Free has 2 full has 20.

NOTE: If you use this and want to export MIDI files you will have to have a Python interpreter installed on your machine. Also you will need to create a folder just for the VST file and then link your DAW to it. I've only tried this on Windows with Reaper and Ableton Live 12 Lite. If you are interested in using the full version on another setup, please download the free version first and try it out.

The videos below should give you an idea of the operation. But bear in mind they are using the integral and very basic synthesizer.
