AEmodular BRAEDBOARD CD40106 oscillator build
Recently got a BRAEDBOARD add-on module for my AE modular synthesizer. Tried it out with a CD40106 oscillator. The post outlines the build and gives a link to the video.

So I recently got a BRAEDBOARD module to add to my AE modular synthesizer system. I thought it would be good fun to allow me to add custom circuits to my synth setup. I don't usually like working with breadboards, as I prefer PCB's, but I thought this set up would be interesting for trying out simple circuits.
One of my AE modular racks had a spare slot big enough for the BRAEDBOARD, so I obtained one and fitted it. (fitting is shown in the videos linked at the bottom of the blog). The AE modular wicki has details of example circuits to get you started, so I tried out the CD40106 oscillator circuit. Note that the BRAEDBOARD comes with some components to get you started.

The wicki includes some images of the layouts for the oscillator circuit, but I thought it would be a good Idea to do a rough sketch of a schematic as well.

Note that later on after trying out the first circuit, I also added another oscillator to provide FM modulation. This is shown in the videos and detailed on the AE modular wicki as well.
After building the circuit on the BRAEDBOARD module I tried the oscillator out with some of the other AE modular modules I had. I mainly tried the oscillator out with filters and envelope generators that were modulated by an LFO. Note, at the moment I haven't added any voltage control to the oscillator, so it just drones. The frequency can be changed via the variable resistor, but for the time being I was using the other filters and envelope generators to add some animation. The built oscillator is shown below on the right.

The basic setups I used with the oscillator are shown in the block diagrams below.

After building the circuits and connecting them up on the AE Modular synthesizer, I tried them out with some simple jams and sequences. The resulting videos of the builds and demo sounds are linked below. When I get round to it, I may try and add voltage control with V/Oct transistor based circuits and also vactrols. If the videos / info is of any use, please like / subscribe / support, thanks M.
